News Release - Roof Flow Rates Calculator now online

Online Flow Rate Calculator Launched

1st February 2002

We are pleased to announce an enhancement to our online electronic catalogue, which enables users to quickly and easily work out the number of roof outlets required based on design roof area, head of water and design rainfall rate.

When displaying product details for a roof outlet, there is now the option to 'View Flow Rates', which will display a window with information similar to that shown in the example below.

By simply entering your design rainfall rate, design roof area, the head of water required and clicking on the 'Calculate' button, the roof outlet calculator will work out the roof area drained per outlet and hence the number of outlets required (note - the example below is non-functional). To see it in action, click the link below to go to our electronic catalogue, search for 'roof outlet' and display an outlet of your choice.

Roof Outlet Calculator
The design of the layout of roof outlets should be in accordance with the recommendations given in BS 6367. Select the head that you wish use and type in a value in m² for the effective roof area that you wish to drain, and based on that information and the rainfall intensity you input, the roof outlet calculator will work out how many outlets are required.

1. Enter Rainfall intensity being used (mm/hr):
2. Enter effective roof area being drained (m²):

3. Select the head that you wish to use:

15mm 35mm
20mm 40mm
25mm 50mm
30mm

Result: Number of WB514 outlets required to drain a 1500m² roof area with a 35mm head at 150mm/hr rainfall intensity = 7
